Former Nebraska third baseman Alex Gordon has been named Double-A Texas League player of the year. Gordon was the Kansas City Royals’ first-round pick in 2005.
He was fourth in the Texas League with 29 home runs and 109 runs scored for the Wichita Wranglers and is ranked in the top five in 13 offensive categories.
Gordon is the second Royal to be so honored, joining Johnny Damon in 1995.
Gordon was also named to the postseason all-star team and has helped lead the Wranglers to the Texas League playoffs for the first time since 2003.
