NebraskaWhat an evening the Husker Football team had last night when they learned that two big defensive tackles committed to the Big Red Family.  Defensive tackles Chris Perry and Kevin Dixon switched their pledges to Nebraska from other schools, bolstering an already strong group of tackles set to join the mix in Lincoln next season.

Perry had been committed to Tennessee - and Miami, Fla., before that - and junior-college transfer Dixon, according to rivals.com, changed his commitment from South Florida to NU. They plan to sign letters of intent Feb. 7, part of a class now 31 players strong and stocked with six defensive tackles.

It would be great to rotate linemen in and out of games to keep fresh legs in for the Blackshirt Defense.  Hopefully Perry and Dixon can pick up the gameplans right away and contribute next year.

NebraskaIs Brandon Jackson leaving the University of Nebraska and headed to the NFL after his junior year?  These are the rumors that are spreading quickly around Lincoln today.  There have been some reports made that Jackson met with Coach Callahan yesterday to discuss the matter.

It would not suprise me one bit if Jackson ops to leave for the NFL Draft.  This years running back class is pretty weak when you compare it to next years class. Some draft people are saying Jackson could be 5th or 6th running back picked this year, but next would probably be a different story.

If Brandon does decide to leave, that opens a huge opportunity for Marlon Lucky, Cody Gleen, and incoming freshman Quentin Castille.

NebraskaOnly one roster change has been made to the Nebraska Baseball team as second semester began yesterday.  Switch-hitting infielder Jeff Tezak, a transfer from Palomar (Calif.) Junior College and Cal State Northridge, began school Monday at Nebraska and will be eligible to play this spring.

Tezak is expected to compete for the starting third basemen’s job.  He can also play shortstop and second base.

I can’t wait for baseball season to start up for the Huskers and my favorite pro team the Chicago Cubs.  Make sure to take a look at my Chicago Cubs Blog also!

NebraskaSophomore forward Jim Ledsome will not be with the Husker Basketball team again.  He has decided to transfer to Delaware State where he can play closer to his family and concentrate more on his schoolwork.

You can’t doubt a kid that wants to play closer to home and also not have basketball as big of a priority has he had to have it at Nebraska.  He wants to work even harder in the classroom and let his family watch him play in person.

NebraskaKicker Jordan Congdon has decided to be released from his scholarship so he can stay at home in San Diego to help out an ill uncle.  Congdon’s uncle is needing part of a liver, and Jordan was the perfect match in the family.

It will take Jordan 6-12 months to recover from the surgery and that is why he asked to be released from his scholarship.  He did not want to me taking up the scholarship that someone else could be using while he was away from the team.  He plans to enroll at Mesa College while he is at home and get his AA Degree.

All we can do is hope for the best for the Congdon family and hope that they both come out of this 100%.  Time will only tell if Jordan will be healthy to come to the Husker Football program, but he said he would love to come back if everything goes as planned.

NebraskaTyrell Spain has left the Nebraska football program after playing one season with the Huskers.  There were rumors floating around on the Internet for the past few weeks that Spain was going to leave the program.  Some even say that his “Facebook” mentioned it a few months ago.  I guess Spain really didn’t like the move to defense and preferred to play wide receiver.

Spain appeared in nine games, mostly on special teams, and was credited with one tackle.

Good luck wherever you go Tyrell, we wish you the best of luck.

NebraskaWell it was a New Years Day to remember but not for the Nebraska Football team which lost to Auburn 17-14.  It a game where both defeneses played lights out, it was the offenses that could not score any points.

Marlon Lucky had a great game with 155 all purpose yards and the Blackshirt defense played great but it was the few bad play calls that really hurt the team.  The fake punt inside your own 30 was stupid.  Save that for later in the game when you are around the 50 yard line.  Why in the world do we continue to pass on 3 and 1 every time?  You could see Auburn stopping the those quick pass plays all day long, but we kept on trying them.

Onto the good, the defense like I said before played lightsout.  It was great to see them flying around shutting down the running game of the Tigers.  They didn’t allow Irons to get over a hundred yards and didn’t let up many long pass plays.  It’s sad to see Carriker and Moore go out like this, but we have to look back at their great careers for the Big Red and just smile :)

It was a fun year of Husker Football.  Plenty of ups and downs, as it feels like they are still trying to turn that corner and play with the top 10 teams in the country. Oh so close, but never were able to get up over the hill.

NebraskaFirst off, I would like to say that I’m sorry for not having regular updates the past week or so.  I have been very busy like alot of family during the holidays.  But now we wait 24 hours, until the Nebraska - Auburn game in Dallas.

I haven’t had a lot of time to research the game but I’m pretty sure we all know who ever establishes the run game early in the game should come out the winner.  If Nebraska cannot run the ball it is going to be another poor perfomance my the offense.  Similar to what we watched in the Big 12 Championship.  If Brandon Jackson and company can get off to a good start, and allow Zac Taylor some play action pass plays I think Nebraska has a great shot at winning.

On the defensive side of the ball, the front four of the Blackshirt defense is going to have to stop Irons for gaining over 125 yards.  They will also need to record a couple of sacks and cause atleast one tournover in my opinion.

I see this game coming down to the 4th quarter with Nebraska winning by 4.
