James W. Conradt, a Nebraska football fan living in Austin, Texas created what is now being called a big Internet hoax about University of Oklahoma football players Sam Bradford and Landry Jones. Conradt posted a message on the Sooners message board.
Conradt used a template from www.newsok.com to create the article about Bradford and Jones being arrested for drug charges. Conradt said in an interview that he was just trying to get the Sooners fans riled up after a Sooners fan was talking smack on another message board.
Mr. Conradt has now been apologizing about the incident and has said that he wasn’t thinking when he did it. Yeah no kidding you weren’t thinking. Conradt could be be in a legal battle with Kevin Jones who is Landry’s father. Jones has said “I have deep enough pockets, I plan to prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law.”
So Husker fans (or Sooners fans if you are reading), what is your take on this whole hoax? Is the Internet all fun and games when it comes to talking smack? I say Conradt took it a little bit too far.

I definitely think Conradt took it too far with this. I’m a HUGE OU fan, and I have always been proud of the competitive relationship between the Sooners and the Huskers. The two teams have established a rivalry which has produced some of the best games in college football history, and been a determining factor in the National Title hunt on more than one occassion. The problem here is that Conradt took the usual “my kung-fu is better than your kung-fu” argument, and amped it up 100X. There will be no lasting effects to the OU program over this hoax, but what if something like this had happened the night before the NFL draft and both players had declared(I understand that scenario is impossible for these players due to age)? Something like this could cause irreperable damage in a short term cycle like that, and potentially cost the player millions. Definitely a creative idea, just poor judgement.

Look hard enough and you will find idiots like Conradt on BOTH sides of the field. This clown is just another punch in the junk for a classy program like NU. I love the Big 12 and every team in our conference and we surely don’t need this type of fan. Hey Conradt, maybe one of the SEC chump teams will take ya.

I know Conradt. He is immature for his age and a crazed fan but he is not malicious. He isn’t capable of being malicious. That much I guarantee you. Knowing him, I am sure what he did was done in the fervor of football rivalry….however idiotic and thoughtless, there can’t have been more to it than that. In his apology where he says he regrets hurting anyone, I know that has to be true. When I heard this news I realized he’ll have to take his lumps whatever they may be, but it would be a shame to see an example made of such a friendly and uncommonly generous person.
