NebraskaDoc Sadler has received a two year extension and a $100,000 per year raise from the University of Nerbaska.  Sadler can also receive more money if the Huskers make it to the big tournament and even more if they get some wins.

Marc Boehm said entry into the NCAA tourney would earn Sadler an extra $100,000. More money comes with any NCAA victories: $30,000 in the first round; $40,000 in the second; $55,000 in the third; and $75,000 in the fourth.

In other Nebraska Basketball news, center Shang Ping has decided to transfer to a different school to seek more playing time.

A national championship would be worth $200,000

NebraskaThe Nebraska Cornhuskers had a good shot at picking up their first win in the Big12 conference this year but they were not able to get by the Baylor Bears who came into Lincoln and beat the Huskers 72-70.

It was an awesome half for the Baylor Bears that got them the win in Lincoln.  They scored 42 points in the second half and quickly took over the game.  The Bears closed out the game with a 7-1 run.

If you want to look at one spot that lost the game for the Huskers, it would have to be from the free throw line where they only went 11-20 during the second half.

Aleks Maric led the Huskers scoring 21 points and grabbing nine rebounds.  He did miss a couple easy buckets that he should have had however.  Seems that Maric pisses 2-3 of those shots a game.  Steve Harley chipped in a career high 15 points, but the support cast wasn’t quite enough to get the Huskers over the top.

Things won’t get any better for the Huskers as they will now travel to Kansas to play the Jayhawks on Saturday afternoon.  Look for the Huskers to fall to 0-4 in the Big12 and move their season record to 11-6 overall.   I just don’t think they can knock of the Jayhawks at their place.

NebraskaThe Nebraska Cornhuskers were a cold shooting team Tuesday night in Boulder, Colorado as they lost 55-51.  The Huskers have not won a mens basketball game at Colorado since 2005.  If this team really wants to make it to a post season tournament this year, they are going to have to score some more points.

Cookie Miller led the Huskers with 18 points while Aleks Maric chipped in with 14 points.  Where has Ryan Anderson been?  He was a hot shooter last season, but just doesn’t have the stroke so far in 2008.

This was really a game the Cornhuskers should have won.  You have got to win these type of games on the road in the Big 12 if you really want a chance to make it to the big tournament.  The Huskers will next play on Saturday night against Baylor.  Can we say a must win for Doc Sadler and company?

NebraskaHead Coach Doc Sadler took a recruiting trip to Europe, and has found one player that he really likes.  Christopher Niemann who is a 6’11 230 pounder from Germany signed with the Nebraska Cornhuskers and hopes to join the team next year.

However, there will be some paper work that needs to be done, and even more work by the NCAA before Niemann would become eligble.  Two of Neimann’s ex teammates had signed with Iowa State and Washington State but were ruled ineligble because some of the players on their team in Europe were paid players.  So it will take some time to sort everything out, and hopefully all three players will become eligible next year.

NebraskaRoburt Sallie was at the Univeristy of Nebraska a year ago as he hoped the NCAA Clearing House would allow him to play for the Huskers Basketball team.  Well they didn’t since they have some pretty strict rules about prep school players etc.

So Sallie went out to San Francisco Community College where he did not play basketball but took classes.  He is now ready to re-committ to the Huskers as the early signing period beings soon.

Sallie is a 6’5 200 lb swing player who had early offers from Maryland, Memphis, and Wake Forest to name a few.  He wants to help the Huskers get on top of the Big 12 and make some noise in the NCAA Tournament.  Lets hope that really happens!

NebraskaAleks Maric has been selected for the all Big 12 preseason basketball team.  We all know preseason rankings really don’t mean much but it is nice to see Maric being honored.

Maric is only the fourth Nebraska player to make the preseason team, joining Tyronn Lue in 1997, Venson Hamilton in 1998 and Kimani Ffriend in 2000.

Maric is the leading returning scorer and rebounder in the Big 12. Last season, the 6-11 Australian averaged 18-and-a-half points and almost nine rebounds.

NebraskaThe Nebraska Mens Basketball team released their schedule today and over all its not too bad.  I know some people are complaining about the non-conference schedule, but when you play in the Big12, you have got to get some non-conference wins early in the season.  Playing Rutgers, Creighton, Arizona State, and Oregon, is a pretty good non-conference schedule I think.

Eighteen out of 29 games for the Huskers will be played at the Devaney Center.  Exactly the way Coach Sadler wanted it with all the young players he has on the team this year.  You can’t go on the road with a young team and expect them to win many games.

NebraskaFreshman guard Mike Smith has decided to transfer away from the Nebraska Basketball team and attend a Junior College back in New York.  Smith is originally from the Bronx so the move could do him well.  He more then likely wasn’t going to get much playing time and that is what he needs to develope into a better player.

We wish Mike Smith all the best in the future with school and and basketball.

NebraskaToney McCray signed a letter of intent with the Nebraska men’s basketball team late Tuesday night, according to Alan Branch, McCray’s recruiting advisor who works with a basketball scouting service in Houston.

McCray, a 6-foot-6, 180-pound wing player from Missouri City, Texas, faxed his paperwork to Nebraska coach Doc Sadler, Branch said.

McCray, who chose the Huskers over Georgia, becomes the second player to sign with Nebraska during the spring signing period, which began April 11. The other was Ade Dagunduro, also a wing player from Antelope Valley (Calif.) College.

Nebraska coach Doc Sadler announced Tuesday that he has granted requests by sophomores Kyle Marks and Jamel White to be released from their scholarships at the end of the academic year.

“I talked with Kyle recently and he informed me that he wants to be closer to home,” Sadler said. “I feel like sometimes you have to make decisions about what is best for a program, and after visiting with Jamel, he and I came to a mutual agreement that it would be best if he moved on. I wish both of them the best.”

A native of Riviera Beach, Fla., Marks finished the season playing in 18 games while averaging 2.0 points and 1.1 rebounds per game.

White, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., played in 22 games, including 16 starts, before being suspended for the remainder of the season on Feb. 11. He had averaged 9.3 points and 2.4 assists per game to that point.
