NebraskaToday was the first day of the Big 12 Media Day down in Kansas City and the Nebraska Cornhuskers were one of the first teams that talked.  Bo Pelini, Joe Ganz, Matt Slausen, and Barry Turner all made the trip to media days.  I don’t know how much thought you can put into the talk out of the players mouths as they aren’t always telling the truth at these events before the season starts.  However, there was some things that Coach Pelini mentioned that we should talk about here.

First off there are four recruits that are not on the active roster because they do not have the qualifying test scores at this time to gain acceptance into the university.  Antonio Bell, David Grant, Justin Rogers, and David Whitmore are all not listed.  Coach Pelini did say the players are working towards those test scores but he is unsure if they will make it in time.

Pelini also mentioned that Anthony Blue is still injured with his torn acl injury.  He will not be ready for camp in a couple of weeks but hopefully soon after he will get back into drills.  Highly touted recruit Baker Steinkuhler has been playing on the defensive line this summer but the coaching staff still aren’t sure where he will line up once fall camp opens.  Coach mentioned that the defense as a team really needs to step it up if they want to compete in the Big 12 Conference.  I think a lot of time is going to be spent on the defensive side of the ball in camp.

Plenty of reporters noticed how slimmed down Matt Slausen was.  Slausen says he is down to a size 40 waist and would like to get down to a 38 but his hips are naturally just to large.  Hopefully a slimmer Slausen will be greater things out of him in the upcoming season.

Joe Ganz had the best joke of the day when asked about looking bigger in the upper body and running the ball a lot more the season.  He cracked a joke “I’m Tim Tebow, baby.”

So what is your outlook on the Huskers upcoming season?  I can’t wait for camp to open up in the next few weeks and see what kind of team will be out on the field.  I have my season tickets and can’t wait for the kickoff!  If you need Nebraska Football Tickets we always send our readers to StubHub!  It is where fans buy and sell tickets and where all transactions are 100% guranteed!

NebraskaThe Nebraska Football staff was informed today by Cody Green that he has choosen the Huskers of the Texas A&M Aggies.  This is a big get for the Nebraska football team as he can do a lot of things at the quarterback position.

Green is a dual-threat quarterback from Dayton, Texas.  He stands in at 6′4 and weights in at 220 lbs right now.  Green is also rated a four start prospect by rivals.com  and the #10 rated dual-threat qb in the 2009 class.  I hope that with Green committing that the Husker staff can lock up some more recruits that want to join Green in Lincoln.

I would personally like to welcome Green and his family to the Big Red Family.   GO BIG RED!

NebraskaAward watch lists are starting to make their way out into publications and websites for the upcoming college football season and so two Nebraska players made it on lists today.  Marlon Lucky has been named to the 2008 Maxwell Award watch list, which is given annually to the nation’s top player by the Maxwell Football Club. Joe Ganz has been named to the watch list for the Jonny Unitas Golden Arm Award, given to the nation’s top senior quarterback.

Congrats to Lucky and Ganz, but I’m sure they both know it is all just preseason talk and nothing will happen until they step on to the field and have a great season for the University of Nebraska Football team.

NebraskaNebraska football and baseball recruit Khiry Cooper as most people know was drafted last week in the 5th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Los Angeles Angels.  Cooper is still unsure if he will sign with the Angels or stay in Lincoln and be part of the Huskers.

Right now Cooper is in Lincoln but has dropped his summer classes that he had planned on taking.  Once a player is enrolled in a division one school, he would not be able to be drafted once again until after their junior season.  Right now it is a waiting game between Cooper and the Angels.

Cooper has to decide if $125,000-$150,000 is a big enough signing bonus to pull him away from Nebraska.  He has said that he hopes to have a decision in the next week or so.

So what do you think? Will Cooper be a Husker or an Angel?

NebraskaNebraska tight end Hunter Teafatiller was charged with DUI early Monday morning as he was stopped near 11th and Cornhusker Streets in Lincoln.  Teafatiller’s blew a .2 which is more then twice the legal limit.

Head coach Bo Pelini has talked with Tafatiller about his problem and made him aware of the internal discipline he will face throughout the summer. Further discipline regarding Hunter’s playing status for the 2008 season will be determined as the case is resolved through the legal process.

I would not be suprised if he is actually kicked off the team to be honest.  This is third time for the same problem in the last year.  You would think he would have learned by now…

NebraskaI received an email last night about a new Husker video that hit YouTube.  Former Husker linebacker Trev Alberts gives his input on what he thinks of the 2008 Nebraska Football team. I agree with him that the five home games to start the season will be great and the Virginia Tech game could be a turning point for the Huskers. If they can pull off the win then I expect them to carry a lot of momentum into the Missouri game. But if they lose, well watch out against the Wildcats the following week.

So what do you think?  Do you agree with Trev?

NebraskaDontrayevous Robinson accepted a scholarship offer from the University of Nebraska on Thursday night and became the fifth commitment of the 2009 class for the Huskers.  Robinson is a big bruiser type of runner back as he stands in at 6′1 and 215 lbs as he gets ready for his senior season of high school.

Robinson comes from the prestigious Trinity football program out of Texas so you know he is going to be ready for college after he finishes up high school.  He ran for just under 900 yards, had a little more than 200 yards receiving and 18 touchdowns as Trinity won the 5A state championship in Texas.

Welcome to the Husker family Mr. Robinson!  GO BIG RED!

NebraskaC.J. Zimmerer a fullback and linebacker from Omaha Gross received a full ride scholarship offer from the University of Nebraska last night and all it took was a night of sleep before he accepted the offer to become the fourth commit in the 2009 class for Nebraska Football.

Zimmerer stands in at 6′1 and weighs in at 215 lbs.  Hopefully he will have some room to pack on some muscle onto that frame and become a great in-state fullback for the Huskers.

Congrats to C.J. and his family! GO BIG RED!

NebraskaThe Nebraska Football team is a big need for defensive line prospects in the 2009 recruiting class and last night they received a verbal commitment from Thaddeus Randle a defense tackle prospect out of Galena Park North Shore in Texas.

Randle is currently listed at 6-1 and 255 lbs.  Expect Randle to pack on some pounds during his senior season and when he gets to Lincoln.

Randle chose Nebraska over scholarship offers from Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Baylor, TCU and Houston.
