Kurt Mann is going to miss his second straight game after coming down with a viral infection last week. There have been rumors going around that it is mono but Coach Callahan hasn’t officialy said what the virus is.
Brett Byford will get the start at center on Saturday and he has a big challenge ahead of him. Holding off that pesky USC defense!

The injury bug bites the Huskers once again this year. This time it is another linebacker in backup Phillip Dilliard and backup corner Isaiah Fluellen.ÂÂ
Dillard’s injury took place on a kickoff coverage play in the first half and Fluellen’s happened on his first play from scrimmage as a Husker at cornerback. Looks like Dilliard can either use his redshirt or medical redshirt for this injury and hopefully come back strong in 2007.
Fliellen wasn’t even touched when he fell down in his first place at corner back. He was running backwards and turned before falling to the ground. This injury is not good as the secondary is already thin with the injury to Zachary Bowman.

Big time loss for the Huskers as starting cornerback Zack Bowman has been lost for the season due to a torn ACL. It is a big loss for the Huskers because they don’t have a lot of experience in the secondary.
Look for JUCO player Andre Jones to fill into Bowman’s spot and hopefully shut down the wideouts. He is a bigtime player and built like a horse that can punish the wide receivers both at the line and with a punishing hit.
Word from Lincoln is Bowman will either use his normal redshirt that he never used in junior college, or apply for a medical redshirt which he would not have any problems with. Bowman was being projected as a top 20 pick in the 2007 NFL draft but look for him to come back for the Huskers after he recovers from his knee injury.
