Omaha Westside running back Collins Okafor who verbally commited to the old Husker coaching staff has once again verbally commited to the Huskers. Okafor was strongly considering going out to Stanford to play and get a great education, but has decided on the Huskers. Word is that the Stanford coaches were at Westide this morning to get one last word in with him, but that couldn’t even get him to switch!
Welcome aboard Collins, can’t wait to see you in a Husker uniform! GO BIG RED!
Dan Hoch who has been a Nebraska commit for over a year has decided to switch his commitment to the Missouri Tigers and follow the path of other ex Husker commits. While it is a tough pill to swallow losing Hoch, the Huskers did replace his scholarship with another offensive line prospect out of the state of Texas.
David Grant of Killen, Texas accepted a scholarship offer by the Huskers today. Grant measures in at 6′6 and 280 lbs right now. Grant was an Oklahoma State commit first off, and then an Iowa State commit before saying yes to the Huskers.
Kody Spano once was an Oklahoma State recruit, but after de-commiting (wow we have been saying that a lot), and taking a visit to Lincoln this past weekend, he has said yes to the Nebraska Cornhuskers scholarship offer.
One thing that is really nice about Spano joining the Huskers is that he graduated in December from highschool. Graduating early will allow him to enroll at Lincoln next week and begin classes for the spring semester. It also means that he will be able to take part in spring ball which will be huge for him.
One other thing nice about picking up Spano is that his dad is an assistant high school football coach in Texas. Any time you can get the inside track on some players from Texas it will help out in recruiting. Hopefully Kody enjoys his time in Lincoln, and we can possibly get more players from the same area that Kody came from!
Jim Ebke played his high school football at Lincoln East and then took a full ride scholarship offer at South Dakota State to begin his college career in 2007. After being moved to a linebacker position and redshirting last year, Ebke begin to release that he would like to head back to Lincoln.
Ebke was told he was welcome to walk onto the football team and that was all that it took for him to enroll in spring classes. Ebke says he would like to compete at the quarterback position, and he will just have to see how it goes, but he will give it his best shot.
Mark this one down as a big time loss for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. In-state player Trevor Robinson from Elkhorn has committed to Notre Dame over Nebraska and Michigan. I know there are alot of Husker fans that are going crazy right now. They are all thinking how can you let a great player from the state of Nebraska goto Notre Dame? Well you can’t fault the kid for making the decision. It is where Trevor wanted to continue his education and play football. No harm in that.
Trevor said that it was the relationships with the coaching staff at Notre Dame that made him feel comfortable.  I wonder what would have happened if Callahan was still coaching at Nebraska.  Time for Nebraska to move along, and hopefully find a great offensive linemen recruit!Â
After the hiring of Coach Pelini, recruiting is getting off to a pretty good start. Two new players have verabally comitted to the Nebraska Football team. It will be exciting to see what players decide to come to Nebraska with the new staff that is being put together.
Ben Cotton, who is the son of newly hired Barney Cotton, committed last night after being offered a full ride scholarship a few hours before. Cotton was originally comitted to the University of Louisville. He is a 6′5 tight-end and will be coached by the newly hired Ron Brown.
Micah Kreikemeier from West Point, Nebraska also verbally committed a few nights ago. He was suprised to see a caller id name of Thomas Osborne calling his house Sunday evening and quickly figured out what was going on! Kreikemeier will be a project and whatever position he ends up playing.
Welcome to the Big Red Family!
Head Coach Doc Sadler took a recruiting trip to Europe, and has found one player that he really likes. Christopher Niemann who is a 6′11 230 pounder from Germany signed with the Nebraska Cornhuskers and hopes to join the team next year.
However, there will be some paper work that needs to be done, and even more work by the NCAA before Niemann would become eligble. Two of Neimann’s ex teammates had signed with Iowa State and Washington State but were ruled ineligble because some of the players on their team in Europe were paid players. So it will take some time to sort everything out, and hopefully all three players will become eligible next year.
***Nebsports is currently looking for a Nebraska Basketball Fan who would like to contribute to the site and blog about Nebraska Basketball. If you are going to college for Jounalism, Broadcasting, or English etc, this would be a great opportunity for you. If you are interested, please email me and we will talk further.***
Roburt Sallie was at the Univeristy of Nebraska a year ago as he hoped the NCAA Clearing House would allow him to play for the Huskers Basketball team. Well they didn’t since they have some pretty strict rules about prep school players etc.
So Sallie went out to San Francisco Community College where he did not play basketball but took classes. He is now ready to re-committ to the Huskers as the early signing period beings soon.
Sallie is a 6′5 200 lb swing player who had early offers from Maryland, Memphis, and Wake Forest to name a few. He wants to help the Huskers get on top of the Big 12 and make some noise in the NCAA Tournament. Lets hope that really happens!
As Husker fans the past month has not been the best. From getting blown out in consecutive weeks to losing recruits, it is something that the Husker Nation is not used too. As we have seen earlier this week with the de-committ of Jonas Gray, (who has now committed to Notre Dame), the football team is going to definately lose out on some recruits and they are uncertain of what will happen with the coaching staff.
Right now Blaine Gabbert and Will Compton are both looking into Missouri. Which makes since, as both players are from the state of Missouri. Doug Rippy and D.J. Woods are also looking at different schools. They were our two players from the state of Ohio.
As you can see, this recruiting class is going to lose some players, but we are also going to gain some other ones who are putting their trust into Tom Osborne, that he will go out and hire the best available coach that the Huskers can get.
Just last night, the nations #1 defensive junior college player, Simi Kuli committed to the Nebraska Football team. Kuli is a defensive end from El Camino Community College in California. I’ve been reading that the final three teams in his recruiting were Texas A&M, LSU, and Nebraska. Yes, he choose the Huskers over the LSU Tigers!
Lets roll with the punches and see how the recruiting class turns out, and as well with the coaching staff. As we all know, there is going to be some changes made, so lets set back and see what Osborne has in mind and stay behind our program!
GO BIG RED!
Jonas Gray, the star running back from Michigan has decided to de-commit from the University of Nebraska and open up his recruiting once again. He says his decision is because of Coach Callahan being on the hot seat and he doesn’t want to play for a coach that could be out of there in a year or even sooner.
Gray is listing Notre Dame, Michigan, LSU, and Nebraska has his favorites right now. He is still interested in the Huskers, he just wants to see how things play out with the coaching staff.
Also, look for Blaine Gabbert to do the same once the coaching change is made. I see Gabbert moving onto Missouri but I sure hope I am wrong. This is what happens when you have coaches on the brink of being fired, your recruiting class doesn’t know what to do, and they have to try to make the best decisions for their future. You can’t fault these guys for looking around, if I were them, I would be too.
