The Nebraska Cornhuskers had a good shot at picking up their first win in the Big12 conference this year but they were not able to get by the Baylor Bears who came into Lincoln and beat the Huskers 72-70.
It was an awesome half for the Baylor Bears that got them the win in Lincoln. They scored 42 points in the second half and quickly took over the game. The Bears closed out the game with a 7-1 run.
If you want to look at one spot that lost the game for the Huskers, it would have to be from the free throw line where they only went 11-20 during the second half.
Aleks Maric led the Huskers scoring 21 points and grabbing nine rebounds. He did miss a couple easy buckets that he should have had however. Seems that Maric pisses 2-3 of those shots a game. Steve Harley chipped in a career high 15 points, but the support cast wasn’t quite enough to get the Huskers over the top.
Things won’t get any better for the Huskers as they will now travel to Kansas to play the Jayhawks on Saturday afternoon. Look for the Huskers to fall to 0-4 in the Big12 and move their season record to 11-6 overall. I just don’t think they can knock of the Jayhawks at their place.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers were a cold shooting team Tuesday night in Boulder, Colorado as they lost 55-51. The Huskers have not won a mens basketball game at Colorado since 2005. If this team really wants to make it to a post season tournament this year, they are going to have to score some more points.
Cookie Miller led the Huskers with 18 points while Aleks Maric chipped in with 14 points. Where has Ryan Anderson been? He was a hot shooter last season, but just doesn’t have the stroke so far in 2008.
This was really a game the Cornhuskers should have won. You have got to win these type of games on the road in the Big 12 if you really want a chance to make it to the big tournament. The Huskers will next play on Saturday night against Baylor. Can we say a must win for Doc Sadler and company?
Aleks Maric has been selected for the all Big 12 preseason basketball team. We all know preseason rankings really don’t mean much but it is nice to see Maric being honored.
Maric is only the fourth Nebraska player to make the preseason team, joining Tyronn Lue in 1997, Venson Hamilton in 1998 and Kimani Ffriend in 2000.
Maric is the leading returning scorer and rebounder in the Big 12. Last season, the 6-11 Australian averaged 18-and-a-half points and almost nine rebounds.
