As expected the past day or so, Eddie Brown has decommited from the Nebraska Cornhuskers and will accept a scholarship offer from Texas A&M. Don’t be too shocked at all of this, A&M was always his his number one choice, he just had to see if they would end up offering a full ride scholarship. After a player wasn’t able to get into A&M, that opened up an offer for Brown and he quickly grabbed it.
The Huskers will move on, and get another quality recruit to take Browns spot. Don’t worry about that!
Will Compton announced that he will stay commited to the Nebraska Cornhuskers and is happy have have the recruiting come to a close. Compton had his home state Missouri Tigers and the Illinois Fighting Illini along with the Huskers in his final three choices. Even with the coaching changes, he will stay with the Huskers.
Compton turned down Illinois, Missouri, LSU, and late offer from Notre Dame to join the Huskers. He is very excited to play for Bo Pelini and you can probably expect to see him playing pretty early in his career at Nebraska. I can’t wait to see Compton and Blake Lawrence on the field at the same time in the next few years, it could even be this next year!
Thanks for staying with the Big Red Mr. Compton!
The Nebraska Football staff got another verbal commitment on Monday. Eddie Brown said yes to the Huskers after not receiving an offer from Texas A&M which is very close to his home. Brown says he can’t wait to get to Lincoln and be party of the Husker team.
Brown is a 6′2 275 pound defensive linemen that mostly plays defensive tackle but can move around on the line he says.   He turned down offers from Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Missouri and TCU to pick Nebraska.
Welcome to the Big Red Family Mr. Brown!
The Nebraska Cornhuskers got a verbal commitment from another player in Texas over the weekend as Alonzo Whaley commited while on his official visit. Whaley said he pretty much had his mind made up even before stepping foot on campus, that is how well of a bond he had with the coaching staff.
Whaley will probably start out as a linebacker, but could also give the fullback position a try. One interesting thing about Whaley is that he has a younger brother that is also supposed to be pretty good and will be in the 2009 class. This could only help out recruiting his younger brother if the Huskers are interested.
Congrats on joining the Big Red family Mr. Whaley!
Josh Williams, a defensive end from Texas had commited to the Nebraska Cornhuskers earlier in the recruiting process and then de-commited once the coaching staff changes were made. Well now after taking another visit to Lincoln this past weekend and talking with the new coaching staff, Williams has decided to commit back to the Nebraska Cornhuskers!
Williams mentioned that he always liked Lincoln and the school and always wanted to be there but with the coaching staff change he had to look at other options and that is why he commited to Colorado a few weeks back. He says he is done with recruiting and is glad that it is over.
Welcome aboard Mr. Williams! GO BIG RED!
Omaha Westside running back Collins Okafor who verbally commited to the old Husker coaching staff has once again verbally commited to the Huskers. Okafor was strongly considering going out to Stanford to play and get a great education, but has decided on the Huskers. Word is that the Stanford coaches were at Westide this morning to get one last word in with him, but that couldn’t even get him to switch!
Welcome aboard Collins, can’t wait to see you in a Husker uniform! GO BIG RED!
Dan Hoch who has been a Nebraska commit for over a year has decided to switch his commitment to the Missouri Tigers and follow the path of other ex Husker commits. While it is a tough pill to swallow losing Hoch, the Huskers did replace his scholarship with another offensive line prospect out of the state of Texas.
David Grant of Killen, Texas accepted a scholarship offer by the Huskers today. Grant measures in at 6′6 and 280 lbs right now. Grant was an Oklahoma State commit first off, and then an Iowa State commit before saying yes to the Huskers.
Kody Spano once was an Oklahoma State recruit, but after de-commiting (wow we have been saying that a lot), and taking a visit to Lincoln this past weekend, he has said yes to the Nebraska Cornhuskers scholarship offer.
One thing that is really nice about Spano joining the Huskers is that he graduated in December from highschool. Graduating early will allow him to enroll at Lincoln next week and begin classes for the spring semester. It also means that he will be able to take part in spring ball which will be huge for him.
One other thing nice about picking up Spano is that his dad is an assistant high school football coach in Texas. Any time you can get the inside track on some players from Texas it will help out in recruiting. Hopefully Kody enjoys his time in Lincoln, and we can possibly get more players from the same area that Kody came from!
Jim Ebke played his high school football at Lincoln East and then took a full ride scholarship offer at South Dakota State to begin his college career in 2007. After being moved to a linebacker position and redshirting last year, Ebke begin to release that he would like to head back to Lincoln.
Ebke was told he was welcome to walk onto the football team and that was all that it took for him to enroll in spring classes. Ebke says he would like to compete at the quarterback position, and he will just have to see how it goes, but he will give it his best shot.
Mark this one down as a big time loss for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. In-state player Trevor Robinson from Elkhorn has committed to Notre Dame over Nebraska and Michigan. I know there are alot of Husker fans that are going crazy right now. They are all thinking how can you let a great player from the state of Nebraska goto Notre Dame? Well you can’t fault the kid for making the decision. It is where Trevor wanted to continue his education and play football. No harm in that.
Trevor said that it was the relationships with the coaching staff at Notre Dame that made him feel comfortable.  I wonder what would have happened if Callahan was still coaching at Nebraska.  Time for Nebraska to move along, and hopefully find a great offensive linemen recruit!Â
