The much anticipated depth chart has been released for the game against Western Michigan this Saturday. There are a couple of suprises on there that is for sure. Also, it shows how thin the defense is at key positions when you have so many freshman/sophomore’s in the twp deep. Did we not have a junior class on the d-line?

The punt and kick returners have not been announced but word is that Nate Swift and Niles Paul will be returning punts.

So what does everyone think? I think the defense looks very thin with a lot of young players going to see action. I think the lines are going to have to play very good for the team to have success. Hopefully players can step up and make the plays they are capable of making.

The Nebraska football team concluded their spring practices with the annual spring game on Saturday afternoon.  The starters were split up between teams so the competition was pretty good.  The red team led by Joe Ganz beat the White team 24-14.

Ganz threw for 131 yards and two touchdowns against the white team defense.  Ganz hooked up with Curenski Gilleylen on a 77 yard touchdown.

Patrick Witt and Zac Lee both had decent days as well for the Huskers.  Witt took most of the snaps so I assume he is the clear leader for the #2 spot over Lee at this point.  Witt completed 6-of-12 pass attempts for 61 yards. He was intercepted one time.  Lee completed 6-of-11 attempts for 87 yards and a touchdown.

At the running back position, Marlon Lucky ran for 37 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.  Quentin Castille ran for 47 yards and also caught two balls for 55 yards.  Roy Helu finished the game with 67 yards and one touchdown while Marcus Mendoza ran for 33 yards and caught a 24-yard pass for a touchdown.

Prince Amukamara and Armando Murillo made eight tackles to each for the red team.  Amukamara forced a fumble and Murillo and an interception as well.  Colton Koehler led the Whites with six tackles.

Coach Pelini said after the game that there is still plenty of work that needs to get done to get ready for next season.  Hopefully all the kids take it serious this summer during off season conditioning and they come out ready to play in August!

Well Well Well what is everyong going to be talking about this week? A HUSKER WIN!  The Nebraska Cornhuskers came out to play on Senior Day against the Kansas State Wildcats and they dominated them.  The final score was 72-31.

Junior Quarterback Joe Ganz led the Huskers by throwing seven touchdowns and throwing for 510 yards.  Yes, you read that right!  Seven touchdowns and 510 yards!  That is a great performance by the Husker offense today.  All the way from the quarterback to the linemen, and onto the running backs and receivers.  Everyone did a great job!

Maurice Purify led the Husker receivers with six catches for 108 yards.  Todd Peterson grabbed four balls and two touchdowns while Frantz Hardy caught three balls for 83 yards and three touchdowns.  Marlon Lucky and Terrance Nunn both caught a touchdown pass from Ganz as well.

Lucky led the Husker rushing attack with 103 yards and freshman Quentin Castille finished with 50 yards on 11 carries.  Not as many rushing yards as I thought they would get but that is what happens when Ganz passes for over 500 yards.

Onto the defensive side of the ball.  Sure K-state scored 31 points, but in a closer game, I don’t think that would have happened.  Steve Octavien playing in his last game at Memorial Stadium led the team with nine tackles and one sack.  Armando Murillo finished with six tackles and one sack.  Larry Asante also had six tackles, while Corey McKeon had five tackles.

I think Courtney Grixby’s kickoff return in the first quarter ignited the Huskers. It gave them the spark to go out there and whoop some butt.  After that play, it was all downhill for the Wildcats.

Now we move onto Colorado after a bye week.  The Colorado game is always a big one for the players and fans. Lets get another win in Boulder!

Oh yeah, lets see if those K-State fans come back and leave some comments now after they all the doggin they have been doing on the Huskers.  Maybe you guys need to ask yourself if Prince should really be your coach!

Nebraska fans were hoping for a turn around in the 2007 season when they took on the Texas A&M Aggiest on Saturday in Lincoln but a terrible second half stopped all that hoping.  The Aggies outscored the Huskers 20-0 in the second half as the Huskers could not get anything going on offense.

Marlon Lucky had a career high 13 receptions for 125 yars, but only had 23 yards on eight attempts rushing the ball.  Quentin Castille led the team with 60 yards on nine carries.  Roy Helu chipped in with 39 yards on five carries.

Sam Keller had another bad day at the quarterback position.  He finished 26 of 44 for 275 yards and one TD (To Purify), but had several poorly thrown balls, and still isn’t getting rid of the ball when he needs too.  Keller is holding onto the ball way to long, and taking too many sacks.  He needs to get a feel for the pocket and make his reads down the field faster.

Onto the defense, there were times where they played really good, but then they would let up a big play on a third down or, on first down Texas A&M would roll off 8 yard gains which set them up perfectly for a first down on the next play.

The defense wasn’t sure who had the ball multiple times and you could tell that with all the rushing yards that Aggies had during the game.  Stephen McGee set career highs with 35 carries for 167 yards and Jorvorskie Lane rushed for 130 yards and four touchdowns for the Aggies.

Another big play that took a ton of momentum away from the Huskers was in the first half when Nate Swift called for a fair catch and fumbled the ball.  Shortly after the fumble, Lane ran off a big TD run and A&M had all the momentum once again.

It doesn’t get any easier for the Huskers next week either.  They will travel to Austin to face off against the Texas Longhorns.  Prepare for another butt whoopin Husker fans.

Things are not getting any better for the Nebraska Football team right now.  Coming off a blowout loss to the Missouri Tigers, the Huskers fell behind early and never was in todays game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.  The 45-14 loss was the worst loss in Lincoln since 1958.

It was the fourth time this year that the defense gave up 40 points as well.  Oklahoma State racked up 551 total yards today on the Nebraska defense.  The Huskers were not able to stop the run or the pass so the Cowboys pretty much did whatever they wanted to do today.

The offense wasn’t much better today either.  It was the second straight game that they have struggled and I don’t know if it will be any better the rest of the year to be honest.  Sam Keller did throw for two td’s in the second half, but he also had two interceptions.

One bright spot on the offense was Quentin Castille who carried the rock 20 times for 102 yards.  Marlon Lucky and Roy Helu chipped in to help with the running game as well.  Lucky ran for 66 yards, and Helu finished with 55.

I don’t know where this team goes from here to be honest.  Can they drop any more?  Will they pick things up and go out and beat Texas A&M in a week?  Lets hope they get some motivation, and play their best game of the year and beat the Aggies.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Missouri Tigers are set to battle it out for the lead in the Big 12 North Saturday night in Columbus, Missouri.  What Nebraska team will show up for this prime time game that will be televised on ESPN is the big question.

Will we see the defense stand up and play like they are capable of and shut down Chase Daniel, Martin Rucker, and Chase Coffman?  I have heard that Phillip Dilliard will start over McKeon so that will help get some more speed in the linebacker corps to keep up with Rucker and Coffman.  I have also heard we could see some Steve Octavien down on the defense line trying to get pressure on Daniel.  If we can get pressure I like our chances alot.

Also, look for Major Culbert to get time at linebacker where he will spy Daniel.  This worked well last year with Culbert since he has the speed and quickness to keep up with Daniel if he decides to take off running.

On the offensive side of the ball, will the Nebraska rushing attack of Marlon Lucky, Cody Glenn, Quentin Castille, and Roy Helu be able to run the ball?  The offensive line is going to have to play better and protect Sam Keller for that to happen.  I look for Keller to have a big game and put some some good numbers and lead the Huskers to at 4 point victory on the road.

We expected this to happen all along and now official word has been spreading that Phillip Dilliard will be the new starting middle linebackers on Saturday when the Huskers face off against Iowa State.  Cory McKeon will slide over and play some at the will position as Lance Bradenburgh is hurt.

Also, runningback Major Culbert is back on the defensive side of the ball once again.  With the emergence of Roy Helu and Quentin Castille, you could tell that Culbert wasn’t going to get the reps that he needed to be at the running back poistion.

It wasn’t what Nebraska fans had expected on Saturday as Nebraska struggled against Ball State in a 41-40 victory.  Thanks to Sam Keller and the offense, the Huskers improved 3-1 on the season.  Should they have won though?  Probably not but some teams have to get lucky at some point.

I’ll start off a good note and that was the offense.  Sam Keller and company were scoring on almost every possession.  Keller finished the day with completing 29-of-37 passes for 438 yards and three touchdowns.  A big play of the game came in the 3rd quarter when Keller connected with Sean Hill on a 73 yard pass.  Keller also connected with Maurice Purify on the final drive of the game to give the Huskers win.  Keller looked great 90% of the time yesterday and the receivers were all catching the ball instead of dropping them.  A+ for the passing game!

Marlon Lucky, Quentin Castille, and Roy Helu all carried the ball the Huskers.  Lucky led all the running backs with  21 carries and 102 yards.  Lucky also caught 11 passes for another 81 yards.  Castille caught a nice swing pass and then ran it in for a yard out in second quarter.  Helu was the suprise as he got quite a bit of playing time as Cody Gleen sat out the game.  Helu is a quick back that finds the hole and gets to it quick.  He needs to add some weight but he will be pretty good down the road.

Now for the bad part of the game.. The Blackshirts or I think we should start calling them the pinkshirts.  What a disgrace the way the defense is playing right now.  Ball State ran and passed all over the defense and should have put up more points but four dropped balls really hurt them.

I did like the fact that Ricky Thenarse and Phillip Dillard played more, and they need to continue to get more snaps every day.  Tierre Green, Bo Rudd, and Corey McKeon all sucked once again, and only Rudd had one good play on the interception and td.

Nate Davis is a hell of a quarterback, but the Husker defense made him look like a first team all american all day long.  If Cosgrove doesn’t start making some adjustments during the game, it is going to be a long season for the defense.

In the end I’m happy with a win and that is what really matters, but it doesn’t really feel like a Nebraska win.  It was ugly, and one of the worst performances by the defense in a very long time.

Are all you Husker fans ready for the #1 team in the country to come into Memorial Stadium Saturday night and take on the Huskers!  Are you jacked up?  If not, something is wrong with you lol!  Lets get Memorial Stadium rocking the loudest it has ever been!  Just like Coach Callahan is asking for, make a lot of noise while USC is in the huddle and until the ball is snapped.  Don’t sit down, don’t stop yelling, and lets help out the Huskers!

Ok now onto the game lol.  I think the big thing for the Huskers will be how the offensive line performs.  If they are able to give protection to Sam Keller and open up holes for Marlon Lucky and Quentin Castille to run between the tackles I think the Huskers will have a shot.  But if Keller is getting pressure and Lucky and Castille can’t run at all, it is going to be a very long night for the Huskers.

I don’t think we will be able to run the ball on the outside due to the speed of the USC linebackers, so it is key that we establish the run between the tackles and get some first downs early in the ball game.  That will also setup the pass down the field which Nebraska has to take some changes this game unlike last year when the Huskers and Trojans faced off.

On the defensive side of the ball for the Huskers, they have got to get pressure on Booty.  You cannot give him much time back there or the Trojan wide receivers will tear our secondary apart.  They are just too big and too fast for everyone to keep up.  If we can get pressure on Booty and make him make some bad throws that is going to really help out the Blackshirts.  I’m expecting the Trojans to throw deep quite a bit during the game and try to make a knockout punch early in the game.  How will our defense stand up?  That is the very big question.

If the Huskers can keep the tournovers under two, I think they will stay in the game.  But if Keller is rushed he will throw 2-3 interceptions without a doubt.

Coach Callahan fresh off signing a new contract extension, released the depth chart for the Wake Forest game this Saturday.  Most notably is Maurice Purify back in the rotation.  Purify is listed behind Nate Swift and Callahan said that Purify has to earn his starting position back as nothing will be handed to him.  I still expect to see Purify get plenty of reps so I wouldn’t worry about it.

Cody Glenn has also moved up to #3 at running back behind Marlon Lucky and Quentin Castille.
