Quarterback Sam Keller will be out the rest of the season with a broken left collarbone. Keller was sacked late in the fourth quarter against Texas when the injury occured. There isn’t a timetable on a return at this point, so I would say it will be Joe Ganz the rest of the year behind center.
Ganz knows this play book inside and out, and should do a pretty good job. Look for the offense to run some options, and for more rushing yards out of the quarterback position. It should be exciting!
We wish Sam the best of luck with the recovery, and hope him all the best.
In a game where most Huskers fans were left asking, “Where has this team been all year?”, the Nebraska Cornhuskers played their best overall game of the season as they lost to Texas 28-25. The Huskers had a lead heading into the 4th quarter, but that is when Jamaal Charles took over the game.
Charles ran for a career high 290 yards in the game. 216 of the 290 yards came in the 4th quarter on long runs of 25, 40, and 86 yards. With the Nebraska defense blitzing almost every play, all it took was Charles getting past the line and he was gone.
I liked how the defense went out and played balls out the entire game. Sure they were getting tired at the end, but it was nice to see pressure on the quarterback, and players flying around all over the field. They coaching staff told the players, go out there and play for yourself and make some plays and that is exactly what they did.
Marlon Lucky rushed for 111 yards on 24 carries to lead the rushing attack for the Huskers. Sam Keller finished the day 23 for 35 and 298 yards along with two touchdowns to Nate Swift. Keller was injured late in the 4th quarter however with a possibly broken collarbone. Joe Ganz came in and passed for a touchdown and 2 point conversion to bring the Huskers within three points, but the onside kick was recovered by the Lonhorns to secure the victory.
I think we are all suprised with how well the Huskers played on Saturday. Will the same type of team show up when the Huskers take on the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday. Can the Huskers give the Jayhawks their first loss on the season? Lets hope so!
GO BIG RED
Nebraska fans were hoping for a turn around in the 2007 season when they took on the Texas A&M Aggiest on Saturday in Lincoln but a terrible second half stopped all that hoping. The Aggies outscored the Huskers 20-0 in the second half as the Huskers could not get anything going on offense.
Marlon Lucky had a career high 13 receptions for 125 yars, but only had 23 yards on eight attempts rushing the ball. Quentin Castille led the team with 60 yards on nine carries. Roy Helu chipped in with 39 yards on five carries.
Sam Keller had another bad day at the quarterback position. He finished 26 of 44 for 275 yards and one TD (To Purify), but had several poorly thrown balls, and still isn’t getting rid of the ball when he needs too. Keller is holding onto the ball way to long, and taking too many sacks. He needs to get a feel for the pocket and make his reads down the field faster.
Onto the defense, there were times where they played really good, but then they would let up a big play on a third down or, on first down Texas A&M would roll off 8 yard gains which set them up perfectly for a first down on the next play.
The defense wasn’t sure who had the ball multiple times and you could tell that with all the rushing yards that Aggies had during the game. Stephen McGee set career highs with 35 carries for 167 yards and Jorvorskie Lane rushed for 130 yards and four touchdowns for the Aggies.
Another big play that took a ton of momentum away from the Huskers was in the first half when Nate Swift called for a fair catch and fumbled the ball. Shortly after the fumble, Lane ran off a big TD run and A&M had all the momentum once again.
It doesn’t get any easier for the Huskers next week either. They will travel to Austin to face off against the Texas Longhorns. Prepare for another butt whoopin Husker fans.
Things are not getting any better for the Nebraska Football team right now. Coming off a blowout loss to the Missouri Tigers, the Huskers fell behind early and never was in todays game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The 45-14 loss was the worst loss in Lincoln since 1958.
It was the fourth time this year that the defense gave up 40 points as well. Oklahoma State racked up 551 total yards today on the Nebraska defense. The Huskers were not able to stop the run or the pass so the Cowboys pretty much did whatever they wanted to do today.
The offense wasn’t much better today either. It was the second straight game that they have struggled and I don’t know if it will be any better the rest of the year to be honest. Sam Keller did throw for two td’s in the second half, but he also had two interceptions.
One bright spot on the offense was Quentin Castille who carried the rock 20 times for 102 yards. Marlon Lucky and Roy Helu chipped in to help with the running game as well. Lucky ran for 66 yards, and Helu finished with 55.
I don’t know where this team goes from here to be honest. Can they drop any more? Will they pick things up and go out and beat Texas A&M in a week? Lets hope they get some motivation, and play their best game of the year and beat the Aggies.
Nebraska and Oklahoma State will kickoff on Saturday at 11:30 central time from Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. Will this be a game where we see the Huskers season turn around, headed in the right direction? Or will it be another step backwards for Coach Callahan, his staff, and his players?
I think this matchup comes right back onto the Nebraska defense. If Cozgrove elects to rush some players and cause some havoc rather then sitting back and letting the offense come to the defense I like our chances. One key not though is that Suh, might be suspended for part of this game if not all of it for an altercation at practice the other day. That could really hurt our already thin defensive line.
One matchup that I’m really looking forward to watching is Zack Bowman going against Adarius Bowman of the Cowboys. Will Nebraka use Bowman as a lockdown corner the entire game against Bowman? I would think they would, which would free up a saftey to help put the rest of the defense. Bowman locked down on Todd Blythe and that worked pretty weel, so I like our chances doing the same with Adarius Bowman.
I think our offense will put up some points on this Cowboys defense. Sam Keller will get the offense going, and Marlon Lucky will contribute with over 100 all purpose yards.
I like the Huskers to win this game 35-24
The Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Missouri Tigers are set to battle it out for the lead in the Big 12 North Saturday night in Columbus, Missouri. What Nebraska team will show up for this prime time game that will be televised on ESPN is the big question.
Will we see the defense stand up and play like they are capable of and shut down Chase Daniel, Martin Rucker, and Chase Coffman? I have heard that Phillip Dilliard will start over McKeon so that will help get some more speed in the linebacker corps to keep up with Rucker and Coffman. I have also heard we could see some Steve Octavien down on the defense line trying to get pressure on Daniel. If we can get pressure I like our chances alot.
Also, look for Major Culbert to get time at linebacker where he will spy Daniel. This worked well last year with Culbert since he has the speed and quickness to keep up with Daniel if he decides to take off running.
On the offensive side of the ball, will the Nebraska rushing attack of Marlon Lucky, Cody Glenn, Quentin Castille, and Roy Helu be able to run the ball? The offensive line is going to have to play better and protect Sam Keller for that to happen. I look for Keller to have a big game and put some some good numbers and lead the Huskers to at 4 point victory on the road.
What do you all think? Will the Huskers pull this one out and move closer towards a Big 12 North Title?
Nebraska didn’t start off on the right foot today against Iowa State but they finally got it going late in the first half and continued on in the second half. After spotting Iowa State a 10-0 lead, the Huskers came back to win 35-17.
Running back Marlon Lucky passed and ran for touchdowns and Bo Ruud scored on an interception return for the second straight week for the big plays of the game. We all figured we would see a trick play today and that we did when Lucky connected with Sean Hill for a 20 yard touchdown. Ruud’s touchdown was a on pass breakup by Courtney Grixby, and that Ruud returned 93 yards for a pick six.
Nebraska quarterback Sam Keller was 18-for-28 for 219 yards, with one interception on the day.  Keller connected with Thomas Lawson twice for touchdowns.
Bo Ruud and Steve Octavien had big days for the Husker defense along with Grixby. It was nice to see double digit tackles and tournovers for the defense. That is something they haven’t been getting until today against Iowa State.
Nebraska is now 4-1 on the season and travel to a hostile stadium in one week for a night game against the Missouri Tigers. This game could ultimately decide who wins the Big 12 North. Well, we can now throw Colorado into that mix as they upset #3 rated Oklahoma today.
GO BIG RED!
***We now know why Andre Jones did not get his name called on Saturady. Jones was suspended for the game for internal disciplinary reasons. Coach Callahan said that Jones would be back for the Missouri game this coming Saturday.***
It wasn’t what Nebraska fans had expected on Saturday as Nebraska struggled against Ball State in a 41-40 victory. Thanks to Sam Keller and the offense, the Huskers improved 3-1 on the season. Should they have won though? Probably not but some teams have to get lucky at some point.
I’ll start off a good note and that was the offense. Sam Keller and company were scoring on almost every possession. Keller finished the day with completing 29-of-37 passes for 438 yards and three touchdowns.  A big play of the game came in the 3rd quarter when Keller connected with Sean Hill on a 73 yard pass. Keller also connected with Maurice Purify on the final drive of the game to give the Huskers win. Keller looked great 90% of the time yesterday and the receivers were all catching the ball instead of dropping them. A+ for the passing game!
Marlon Lucky, Quentin Castille, and Roy Helu all carried the ball the Huskers.  Lucky led all the running backs with  21 carries and 102 yards. Lucky also caught 11 passes for another 81 yards. Castille caught a nice swing pass and then ran it in for a yard out in second quarter. Helu was the suprise as he got quite a bit of playing time as Cody Gleen sat out the game. Helu is a quick back that finds the hole and gets to it quick. He needs to add some weight but he will be pretty good down the road.
Now for the bad part of the game.. The Blackshirts or I think we should start calling them the pinkshirts. What a disgrace the way the defense is playing right now. Ball State ran and passed all over the defense and should have put up more points but four dropped balls really hurt them.
I did like the fact that Ricky Thenarse and Phillip Dillard played more, and they need to continue to get more snaps every day. Tierre Green, Bo Rudd, and Corey McKeon all sucked once again, and only Rudd had one good play on the interception and td.
Nate Davis is a hell of a quarterback, but the Husker defense made him look like a first team all american all day long. If Cosgrove doesn’t start making some adjustments during the game, it is going to be a long season for the defense.
In the end I’m happy with a win and that is what really matters, but it doesn’t really feel like a Nebraska win. It was ugly, and one of the worst performances by the defense in a very long time.

Things didn’t go as planned on Saturday night in Lincoln when the Huskers and Trojans met at Memorial Stadium. It was awesome seeing all the fans jacked up at the beginning of the game and through the first quarter. It was electric and the Huskers were on top 10-7 but that was about as good as it got as the Trojans went on for a 49-31 victory.
USC quickly came back and put up 14 points to close out the first half and take a 21-10 lead at halftime. A lot of Husker fans were mad about the USC player being left on the field for 12 minutes and taking a lot of the momentum away from the team and fans but you have to come back out on the field with the same emotion. If you can’t get up for playing USC after sitting for 12 minutes something is wrong.
The second half of the ballgame was pretty much how the first half ended with USC running ball right down the throats of the blackshirt defense. Our defensive line was getting manhandled the entire game. USC had a game plan going in that they were going to double team Suh and make Potter, Steinkuhler, and Turner beat them. Well that didn’t happen as they forced 0 tournovers and never sacked Booty the entire game.
The Husker offense got things going late in the second half when USC had their second team defense in but it wasn’t enough. Sam Keller had a good game overall (minus the two interceptions) but it was the offensive line and running backs that performed poorly. Well I will put most of that blame on the line because a running back can’t run the ball if the line is getting pushed back into him everytime.
The widereceivers played a really good game. It was awesome to see Maurice Purify and Nate Swift get into things early in the ball game and then Todd Peterson making some grabs and even two touchdowns.
Nebraska still isn’t ready for bigtime football. They have weaknesses and USC exposed them all night on Saturday. The good news is that Nebraska plays Ball State on Saturday and will hopefully get things back on track before Big 12 games start up.

It sure wasn’t a pretty win, but a win is a win and that is what the Nebraska Football team needed as the traveled to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to play the Wake Forest Deamon Deacons on Saturday.
It was a very sloppy game for the Huskers yesterday as they could never really get into a roll and score three times in a row while holding the Deamon Deacons at bay. The Huskers had a very hard time running the ball early in the ball game. Wake Forest was usually throwing 8 guys in the box and it created havoc for Sam Keller, the offensive line, and Marlon Lucky. Lucky who finished with 90 yards on 24 carries had a nice run of 22 yards in the third quarter but that was really his only big run of the day.
Keller looked very confused out there. Maybe it was because it was his first road game in two years? I don’t think so since Keller has been around for a while and played in some big games during his career at Arizona State. I don’t think he takes all the reads he could, and yesterday he didn’t have a lot of time to do that with the Wake defense. Keller also over threw about 4 balls that could have been some big gains. Hopefully he will get that rust off and lay those balls in where they need to be.
The wide receivers and tight ends did not help out Keller’s stats either. How many more times are we going to see dropped balls in key situations? Hold onto the ball before you try running guys! Catch the ball, take the hit, and move the chains!
As far as the defense, I was pleased with how the defensive line played. Suh was a beast during the game and if he gets one arm on the running back he is going to go down hard. I would have liked to see the defensive ends stay at home more often with all the mis-direction and reverse type plays Wake Forest was running.
The linebackers played terrible I thought. Corey McKeon and Bo Rudd had a ton of missed tackles. You can’t arm tackle everyone! Lower your head, wrap up, and tackle the opposing player. Stop trying to go for a strip every play and lay some damn wood like a good linebacker does.
The defensive backs played alright despite a couple of let downs on the same type of play. Luckily for the Huskers, only one of them went for a TD, and the receiver dropped the ball on the first long pass. If Tierre Green is out for any amount of time at his safety position, I would really like to see what Ricky Thenarse could do back there. He will lay some lumber and lay out some wide receivers and that is what we need to see.
Overall a win is a win and that is what we got. The Huskers went into a tough place to play, against the ACC Champion and came out of there with a win. I’ll take a win no matter how ugly it is!
