Nebraska football has got it’s 11th verbal committ for next year! This time it is a speedy running back from the state of California. Roy Helu verbally committed to the Huskers last night after praying and talking about it with his parents. He loved his visit here and says that he will not be taking anymore visits but we shall see. Roy turned down offers from Cal, Oregon, and BYU.
He accumulated 1,526 yards and scored 19 touchdowns on 186 carries for an 8.2 yards per carry average last year. He also averaged over 16 yards on 30 receptions and added another four touchdowns receiving.
Welcome to the Big Red Family Mr. Helu!
Doc Sadler has got his first committment for the 2007-2008 season. Alex Chapman has verbally committed to the program after visting last weekend. Alex will be playing in Sheridan Wyoming for a community college this year and then come to Lincoln and have three years to play three.
“I’ve committed to Nebraska,” Chapman said. “It’s a good program, they’ve got new coaches, and it’s in the Big 12. I like the athletics and the academics there. I just couldn’t wait any longer, so I committed.”
Alex’s brother Clint plays for the Texas Longhorns so it will be fun to watch then battle it out on floor.

Starting guard Jamel White injured his clavical bone during a pickup game on Monday the University is reporting. Right now it doesn’t sound to server and that White should only be out a couple of weeks. Doc Sadler is really going to need White to be healthy and stay healthy this year if he wants to have any chance in the Big 12.
Nebraska opens up the season Nov 14th against the University of Nebraska Omaha.

Marlon Lucky has been named the Big 12 Conference player of the week for big game on Saturday against Troy. Lucky had 10 carries for 156 yards and three long touchdown runs.ÂÂ
The Big 12 offensive award is the fourth such honor for a Husker player in the last two years. Senior quarterback Zac Taylor was tabbed following a record-shattering passing performance last year against Iowa State. In addition to Taylor, junior linebacker Bo Ruud and former punter Sam Koch were named Big 12 Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, in 2005.

Nebraska Baseball will play 26 games against NCAA tournament teams and five Big 12 home series next year in the schedule released by the university yesterday.
The Huskers went 42-17 last year and reached the NCAA Super Regionals for the seventh time in eight seasons. Among the teams Nebraska will be taking on in the spring are College World Series qualifier Rice along with Super Regional qualifiers Alabama, Missouri and Oklahoma.
Coach Mike Anderson says the Huskers’ 2007 schedule is one of the most ambitious the Huskers have put together. Nebraska will play seven NCAA tournament teams in its first 14 contests.
After playing its first ten games on the road, Nebraska opens a 28-game home schedule on March sixth against Nebraska at Kearney. The team then travels to Alabama to return a home-and-home series with the Crimson Tide.
The Huskers are going to playing in prime time once again! This time they will be facing the Kansas Jayhawks at Memorial Stradium on September 30th at 6 p.m. central time. This weekends game against Troy will aso be at 6 p.m. centrai time.
I love night games, and it is a great tool for recruiting. It allows the recruits to arrive in the morning and have all day to meet with coaches and teachers at the school before attending the game. This Saturdays game will be the first night game this season and with the new big screen in place it is going to be exciting! If anyone takes pictures we would love to post them on the site and give you credit for them. If you have pictures you can email them to me here.

All the excitment the Husker fans quickly went down as USC pulled away in the 2nd quarter in last nights game. In a game that seen the Huskers run more then pass to try to control the game and the clock, they could not get the running game going and USC pretty much dominated them.ÂÂ
USC used a nice running attack along with a precise passing game to beat the Huskers. Dwayne Jarrett caught everything that was thrown to him it seemed like. Grixby and Jones could not keep up with the big USC receivers and the d-line was only able to sack USC QB Booty once.
I have been reading that alot of people are upset with the gameplan that Coach Callahan used last night but you cannot get into a slugfest with USC and expect to score 50+ points on their defense, they are just too fast. Callahan wanted to get the game into the 4th quarter and give the team a shot, and that was what he did. If it was not for a key fumble in the 3rd quarter by Marlon Lucky, Nebraska would have been right in the game and had a shot. Another play that hurt was a holding in the 3rd quarter when Nebraska was inside the USC 30 yard line.
Lets support the team, and not talk about all the negative from the game, it is obvious that NU isn’t at the same level of play as USC and other top programs right now.  We still have the entire conference play left, and the goal for the team is to win the Big 12 North and goto the Big 12 championship and we can do that!
