When the Nebraska Football media guide was released at the Big12 Media days on Monday, Ronnell Grixby’s name was not listed with the walk ons. Well we now know why thanks to an article by the Omaha World Herald. Grixby was tested this summer while doing workouts and his heart registered in at 215 beats when the average hear beats around 165 times a minute during workouts. As a precaution, Grixy was held out of workouts while more tests were run.
Grixby has been told he can workout but they want to make sure that the problem does not happen again. Grixby will not walk on in 2008 but hopes to rejoin the team in 2009 once he knows his body is all good to go. We wish Ronnell and his family all the best and hopefully we can see a another healthy Grixby wearing Husker red.
Nebraska is going to be without one of their returning cornerbacks this spring and possibly part of the 2008 season as Anthony Blue will need to have surgery on a knee that he hurt during winter conditioning. Rumors around Lincoln are saying he possibly tore his MCL and ACL but no official announcement has been released on what the exact injury is.
Blue was a true freshman last year and played in all 12 games for the Huskers. He was expected to compete for a starting cornerback position this year as the Huskers lost Cortney Grixby, Zack Bowman, and Andre Jones at the position.
Quarterback Sam Keller will be out the rest of the season with a broken left collarbone. Keller was sacked late in the fourth quarter against Texas when the injury occured. There isn’t a timetable on a return at this point, so I would say it will be Joe Ganz the rest of the year behind center.
Ganz knows this play book inside and out, and should do a pretty good job. Look for the offense to run some options, and for more rushing yards out of the quarterback position. It should be exciting!
We wish Sam the best of luck with the recovery, and hope him all the best.
Offensive linemen Lydon Murtha will be sidelines for the rest of the season due to a foot injury Coach Callahan said yesterday. Murtha was injured on the Huskers’ first series Saturday in the 36-14 loss to Texas A&M but finished the game. Callahan said the junior would be out six to eight weeks after starting NU’s first eight games at right tackle.
I’m hearing reports that true freshman Jaivorio Burkes could possibly have his redshirt pulled off him due to all the injuries on the offensive line. I’m not for this decision at all. The season is already going bad, why waste the kids redshirt when you have D.J. Jones and Mike Huff who could move around on the line.
The coaching staff has already wasted plenty of redshirts that weren’t needed this year (Niles Paul), please don’t make another mistake and take Burkes redshirt off him as well.
Nebraska offensive linemen Andy Christensen will be out the rest of the year with a terrible knee injury that he sustained on the second drive of the USC game. Early reports are saying he tore his ACL.
I would expect Mike Huff or Keith Williams, or Jordan Picou to get some more playing time due to Christensen’s injury.
