The Nebraska football recruiting class for 2011 continues to grow larger as they received a verbal commitment from North Carolina kicker Niklas Sade on Wednesday. Niklas was named the second best kicker at a Las Vegas kicking camp and also kicked for the Nebraska coaching staff after he arrived late for the kicking camp in June. Sade says he is very accurate inside of 40 yards but did kick a 57 yard field goal in front of the coaching staff in Lincoln.
Sade has a very high ceiling at the kickers position. He was given a full ride scholarship by the coaching staff so they really like his potential. It’s not very often that a kicker earns a full ride before kicking in some games at the college level. Let’s all hope the 6 foot 3 inch Sade can come into Lincoln and take over for Alex Henery next year.
Also, with Sade committing, it looks like Adi Kunalic will not be using a redshirt this season like we have talked about in the past. Look for Adi to handle kickoffs and Alex to handle the field goal and punting duties.
The Nebraska football and baseball teams received a big time verbal commitment over the weekend as highly rated quarterback and baseball player Bubba Starling committed to the university. Bubba will be a senior in Gardner, Kansas this upcoming season and is expected to be a top 5 round draft pick in the 2011 Major League draft. A lot of people think that Bubba will choose the MLB but he reported over the weekend that it would take a lot of money for him to chose baseball over Nebraska.
Starling was thought to be down to Nebraska and Notre Dame and he chose the Huskers over the Irish as Lincoln and the school felt like home. It helped out that his baseball team was playing at Haymarket Park and that will his future home while playing baseball as well. Starling also said that he is 100% done with the recruiting process and that he is not interested in any other schools.
Starling is the second 4-star dual-threat quarterback that has verbally committed to the 2011 signing class. Jamal Turner committed to Nebraska earlier on during the recruiting process. It will be fun to watch Turner and Starling battle it out and it will be interesting to see how the two do compared with other quarterbacks already on the roster. It’s safe to say however that the Huskers are set at the quarterback position for quite a while.
The Nebraska coaching staff received a very surprising call on Tuesday night as Tevin Mitchel called to commit to the program without ever stepping foot on campus. Mitchel said his relationship with Tim beck and Bo Pelini sealed the deal for him and all the information he has found out about UNL and the city of Lincoln has been very positive and he plans on visiting campus over the Summer to see where he will be spending the next four or five years after he graduates in 2011.
Tevin is a Rivals 4 star player and also Top 250 player overall. He plays safety in high school but has been recruited as a cornerback for the Huskers. He picked Nebraska over offers from the likes of Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Arkansas, Boise State, Purdue, Texas A&M, Baylor, Texas Tech and many others.
Welcome to the Big Red Family Tevin!
Good morning Husker fans, today is the big day that a lot of people have been waiting for. From the coaching staff, the athletes, and yes even the fans, national signing day if a very big day. So will the Huskers get commitments from Brion Carnes, Corey Cooper and Owamagbe Odighizuwa to close out the 2010 class?
We will be updating this list through out the day when the faxes reach the athletic department!

Hey Husker fans! I’m finally recovered from the long weekend in Lincoln what a great weekend it was! The Huskers came out on top against the Sooners 10-3 and even though the offense still stunk it up, the defense picked them up and everyone was jacked inside of Memorial Stadium.
Even before the game, the crowd was crazy and what can I say about the tunnel walk besides “THE BEST EVER”. This game was the loudest game I’ve ever attended and it was a huge win for Coach Pelini and the program. Did anyone else see Bo after the came when he was walking off the field? Now that was one excited man!
So the 10-3 win was nice but there is still a lot of things that the team needs to work on. The offense still can’t move the ball (only seven first downs?!) and had some costly penalties against a tough Sooner defense. No matter if it is Cody Green or Zac Lee behind center, the team is not moving the ball and putting points on the scoreboard like they should be. It is really too bad the offense can’t keep up with the great defense that the blackshirts are playing.
The defense picked off five passes while Ndamukong Suh and Jared Crick once again had a great game from their DT positions. The Sooners did put up 325 yards of offense, but they had just 80 rushing yards and Landry Jones completed only 26 of his season-high 58 pass attempts.
Overall it was a great victory and keeps the Huskers in pace with Kansas State for the Big 12 North title. But that brings up another question, does any North team want to face Texas down in Dallas for the Big 12 Championship?
Sunday brought some great news for the coaching staff and fans as three high school players verbally committed to the program. Defensive tackle Jay Guy, cornerback Joshua Mitchell and defensive end Tobi Okuyemi all want to be part of the tradition at Nebraska. Three more defensive players for the 2010 recruiting class that is filling up pretty quickly.
The team will now practice this week as they prepare for a big showdown on Saturday down in Lawrence, Kansas. The Jayhawks will be ready for the Huskers and the players are going to have to come out and play a good game to get out of there with a win. Let’s see how things play out!
It is all good news this Thursday evening as we have learned that a speedy wide reciever from Louisiana has verbally committed to the University of Nebraska. Curtis Carter a 5’10 wideout from Stonewall, LA took his official visit to Lincoln last weekend when the Huskers lost to Texas Tech but the loss sure didn’t hamper his experience and everything that Nebraska had to offer.
I was reading a message board tonight when Curtis’s father posted “Very good news coming soon” and I knew right away that Curtis picked the Huskers. He also had offers from Alabama, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, Missouri and TCU. One reason he said that he decided to pull the trigger was quarterback commit Tyler Gabbert. He had been texting back and forth with Tyler through the week and when Tyler assured him that he would be coming to Lincoln, Curtis decided to call the coaches and give them his pledge.
Carter is a very speedy wide out that can really spread the field for the Huskers. It will be exciting to see him in Husker red and see what he can do out on the field!
Anterio Sloan announced Sunday afternoon that he was opening up the recruiting process once again. Sloan said that he is no longer a Husker commit and is getting a lot of attention from three particular SEC teams. Auburn, Kentucky and Mississippi State have been sending Sloan a lot of mail and really showing him a lot of attention where as it seems the Husker coaching staff has really slowed down on sending him mail.
Sloan is a pretty good corner back that I would like to see where a Husker jersey. He is the 21st rated corner back in the country on Rivals. Sloan has said that the Huskers are still in his top four so hopefully he will still make a trip to Lincoln and check out the campus and take in a game.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers received a verbal commitment from Donovan Vestal on Saturday as Vestal announced his college decision on the day of his birthday. Vestal is a defensive end from Arlington, Texas and is the first commitment in the 2010 class from the state of Texas.
Vestal said that he struck up a big relationship with coach Beck and coach Papuchis which played a big role in his commitment.
Vestal chose the Huskers over scholarship offers from Arizona, Arkansas, Baylor, Houston, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Rice, SMU, and UTEP.
Good afternoon Husker fans! I haven’t had a lot of time to blog this week but thought I would throw something up now before I leave for a weekend get away to Denver. All in all it has been a pretty good week for Husker athletics with the football camps going on, football commitments, the baseball draft and Tom Osborne staying on indefinitely as athletic director.
I’ll kick things off with the big news of Osborne saying on as athletic directory indefinitely. Originally, the agreement between Nebraska Chancellor Harvey Perlman and Osborne stated that Osborne would serve as athletic director until June, 2010. This is big news for Husker athletics as he has really got things going in the right direction. We will just have to remember at some point, Osborne will have to step away from the University and a successor will be hired. I expect that to happen in the next three to five years.
The football camp has been going on at the University with players from all around the country attending. The economic crisis has limited some players that would have normally attended but all reports I have read have been good about the camp. The Huskers even picked up their first commitment for the 2011 class as instate prospect Ryne Reeves from Crete gave his verbal commitment after being offered by the coaching staff. Reeves could be a great player for the Huskers in the future!
The Major League Draft has also been going on this week. Even though the Husker baseball team didnt’ have the season that they wanted, they have seen some players get drafted so far. So far Mike Nesseth (10th round – Angels), Jeff Tezak (24th round – White Sox) and Adam Bailey (38th round – Yankees) have been drafted.
I hope everyone has a good weekend and we hear more football recruiting news soon!
Mens basketball coach Doc Sadler received some good news recently when 6-foot-1 point guard Kenyon McNeaill verbally committed to the University of Nebraska. McNeaill averaged 15 points, 3.6 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game while helping guide Conway to a 24-4 record last season.
McNeaill said he was drawn to the Huskers because of their defensive play and the way they generate points off of turnovers. McNeaill called Lincoln and the team the perfect fit and no matter if a team like Memphis comes in with an offer he is staying with the Huskers.
It will be a while before we see McNeaill in a Husker uniform but lets hope he has a great senior season down in Arkansas and arrives on campus 100% healthy and ready to battle it out at the point guard position!
Welcome Kenyon!
