Nebraska is headed back to the Big 12 Championship in Dallas this next weekend after they locked up the North Division title on Friday with a 45-17 victory over the Colorado Buffaloes. The rivals were playing for the last time as the Huskers are heading to the Big 10 and the Buffaloes are heading off to the Pac 10 – Pac 12.

Rex Burkhead was the man for the Huskers as he led the offense with 19 carries for 101 yards and a touchdown. Rex also threw for two touchdowns as finally Shawn Watson dialed up a couple of passes out of the wildcat formartion. It was about time Mr. Watson!

Going into the game a lot of Husker fans were wondering how Cody Green would play once he was named starter earlier in the week. It was a good thing that Coach Pelini announced the decision early in the week because I think it allowed Cody to settle down and know what was ahead of him. Cody passed just 13 times but completed 10 of them and threw for one touchdown. The big thing was he did not have a turnover and led the offense down the field to put points on the board.

The defense once again played a nice game. The Buffaloes tried to throw deep a couple of times and despite a couple of holding and a pass interference call the Blackshirts did a good job. The Huskers scored 21 points off Buffaloes turnovers. Great job by the Blackshirts once again as they live up to the hype of shutting down opposing teams.

I wish I was heading down to Dallas for the championship game but I can’t make it work. I hope that everyone travels safe and has a great time down in Jerry’s world. As every Husker fans wants to see, let’s hope Dan Beebe is forced to hand Bo Pelini and Tom Osborne the Big 12 Championship as they kiss the conference goodbye.

Good morning Husker fans! Wow what a game last night down in San Diego for the Nebraska Cornhuskers as they dominated the Pac 10 Arizona Wildcats 33-0. The Blackshirts set the tone early and after that Arizona had no idea what to do on either side of the ball. The Huskers offense broke out the wildcat formation and Zac Lee and Niles Paul hooked up on their longest play of the year as the Huskers picked up theit 10th win of the season in the blowout victory.

I’ll start off talking about the offense. Wow, where the heck did this offense come from? Besides having to settle for a couple of short field goals and a couple boneheaded penalties on the offensive line the offenese played one of the best games on the year.

Rex Burkhead running the Wildcat? Lee hitting Paul for a 74-yard touchdown? Paul picking up big yards on a wide receiver reverse? It sure left many Husker fans wondering if Shawn Watson was actually calling plays!  Lee finished the game 13 of 23 for 173 yards and one touchdown. Paul was the main receiver with four catches that he hauled in for 123 yards. On the ground it was all about true freshman Burkhead. Rex was a man Wednesday night as he carried the ball 17 times for 89 yards. We can’t forget about Lee who carried the ball 18 times for 65 yards as well.

On the defensive side of the ball it was all about the “Blackshirt Swagger”. The blackshirts set the tone from the beginning of the game as they put pressure on the Wildcats the first two plays of the game and then caused a interception on third and long. Matt O’hanlon picked off the Wildcat pass and soon after that it was Lee running it in for the touchdown.

All night long the Blackshirts were all over the wildcats. They completely dominated the game. Arizona set Holiday Bowl records with six first downs, 109 yards of offense, 51 offensive plays and nine punts. The Wildcats didn’t get into Nebraska territory until the first drive of the third quarter. That is what I call DOMINATION!

Alex Henery was his usual self as he kicked four field goals and also pinned the Wildcats deep on a couple of punts. Way to represent your own Blackshirt Alex!

Things are looking up and up for the Nebraska football program. Look ahead to the schedule next year and what the team has coming back and you can see why the ESPN announcers last night were talking about the Huskers being a preseason top 10 team.

It’s a great time to be a Husker fan!

Hey Husker fans, hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and a great Halloween! Things go started pretty good on Saturday for all us fans as the Huskers traveled down to Waco, Texas to play the Baylor Bears. The Huskers came away with a 20-10 win even though it was pretty ugly once again on the offensive side of the ball.

True freshman Cody Green got his first career start as Coach Pelini and Coach Watson wanted to spark the offense. It worked a little bit but then there were some of the same old mistakes that have been happening. Green finished the day 12 of 21 for 128 yards and one touchdown. He did have a costly interception and also fumbled once.

One thing that I did like with Green at quarterback was that he can hurt the opposing defense with is feet. On more than one occasion he took off and scrambled or ran a qb draw to pick up 5-8 yards.

Had the running game actually worked on Saturday I think Green would have had a lot better day and put more points up on the scoreboard. It really seems that Roy Helu Jr. needs to rest his shoulder because having him for a couple of plays a game does nothing. If he can’t run with authority and the way we have been accustomed to seeing him run, he should not be out there on the field in my opinion.

The defense once again basically won this game for the Huskers. They shut down the Bears rushing attack to the tune of just 54 yards. Thanks in part to the dominating play of Jared Crick who was named the national defensive player of the week. Crick led the team with 13 tackles (ten solo) and five sacks. Crick also recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter to add to his impressive stat total.

The blackshirt defense also pickd off two Baylor passes as Prince Amukamara and Dejon Gomes both came away with interceptions.

Special teams was great on Saturday as well as freshman Eric Martin blocked a punt that was scooped up and returned for a touchdown by Justin Blachford. Martin once again shows why he is going to be a stud for the next three years.

So now it’s time to start looking forward to a huge game in Lincoln this coming Saturday. Oklahoma will be coming to town for a night game that will be televised on ABC. Memorial Stadium needs to be rocking and we need to have confidence that this team can pull off the upset!

Wow, what a terrible game on Saturday it was for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Texas Tech converted two third and long situations on their opening drive to go ahead 7-0 and then scored again on a lateral pass that Niles Paul dropped and did not pick up. After the Paul drop, I sat here thinking “Oh crap, here comes another big blowout just like a few years.” I’m sure I wasn’t the only one thinking that.

I pretty much put this entire game on the offense and offensive coordinator Shawn Watson. In a game where you need to chew up the clock and keep the ball out of Tech’s hands, the offense had just 70 yards on 30 attempts. I’m tired of trying to run the ball to the outside every play. Run the ball up the middle and keep those linebackers in close rather then letting them spread out and rush from the outside.

There is also a quarterback controversy as Zac Lee had another bad game under center. Lee was first pulled for a series in the third quarter so he could watch from the sidelines and hopefully see some things that Tech was doing on defense. Things didn’t change however when Lee was put back in the game and he was laster pulled again for true freshman Cody Green. Green would lead the Huskers into the endzone for their one touchdown when he connected with Khiry Cooper on a 13 yard pass.

I will say this, Cody gets rid of the ball when he needs to puts it on the receivers hands. Now can the wide outs just catch the ball?

It’s going to be a long week at practice for the Huskers. This is where the team needs to bounce back and have a good week of practice and then come out on Saturday and beat the crap out of Iowa State.
