NebraskaSome students will not be able to sit as close to the football field like they are used to as Athletic Directory Tom Osborne has elected to not allow student seating in section 15 anymore.  Now, season tickets holders that were behind the student sections in sections 12-15 that complained they couldn’t see because the students always stood, are moving down closer to the field in section 15.  That is if they can afford the new donation amount level for those seats.

I know some students are upset over this deal, and it will take some noise away from Memorial Stadium there is no doubt about that. But was the student section really that loud to begin with for most games?  They are still getting sections 12-14 in the South Stadium, and the lower corner in the East Stadium.  There will still be plenty of seating, it is just getting moved around a bit so hopefully you students won’t be so upset about it.

We would like to hear students, alumni, and general fans thoughts on this.  Were you one that got a letter about possibly being moved down to section 15 closer to the field?  If so we are intersted in know if your donation levels are in deed going up for those seats.  Leave us a comment and let us know what your thinking!

NebraskaNebraska is going to be without one of their returning cornerbacks this spring and possibly part of the 2008 season as Anthony Blue will need to have surgery on a knee that he hurt during winter conditioning.  Rumors around Lincoln are saying he possibly tore his MCL and ACL but no official announcement has been released on what the exact injury is.

Blue was a true freshman last year and played in all 12 games for the Huskers.  He was expected to compete for a starting cornerback position this year as the Huskers lost Cortney Grixby, Zack Bowman, and Andre Jones at the position.

HuskersLincoln, NE - The Huskers (6-2) continued their winning ways with an 11-2 win today against in state opponent University of Nebraska at Kearney  (6-8).  Freshman Casey Hauptman from Millard South got the victory in his first collegiate start, allowing 2 runs over 3 innings.  The bullpen took over and continued their domination by shuting down the Lopers over the next 6 innings.

Nick Sullivan led a balanced Husker attack with a 2 for 2 day with 3 RBIs.  Seven Huskers also contributed RBIs and Bryce Nimmo scored 4 times to help power the Huskers.

In addition to yet another great performance by the Husker pitching staff, the Huskers were able to get many of their young players valuable playing time to help add depth to the lineup.  5 non-starters saw action on Tuesday afternoon and Freshman David Stewart even added an RBI.

The win was the 5th in a row by the Huskers on this 12 game home stretch.   They face Northern Colorado on Friday at 1:35 pm for a 4 game stretch (Saturday double header).

HuskersLincoln, NE - On a chilly 37 degree day with light rain, the Huskers (5-2) finished off the 4 game sweep of visiting UC Riverside (2-7).  The Husker bats didn’t mind the cold as they pounded out 14 hits and 13 runs to send UC Riverside home with a 13-1 defeat.

The 13 runs was more than enough for JC transfer Aaron Pribanic who was making his first ever Division I start.  Pribanic tossed a complete game, 5 hitter (shortened) where he also struck out 5.

The hitting was highlighted by senior 2nd baseman Jake Opitz who was 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs to lead the Huskers. Jake Mort, Cody Neer, and Bryce Nimmo also contributed 2 RBIs a piece.

The win completes the four game sweep of the Highlanders and marks the first weekend-series sweep by the Huskers since sweeping a 3 game set over Texas Tech in April 2006 and the first four game weekend sweep since sweeping South Dakota State in March of 2005.

The Huskers next take the field on Tuesday at 1:35 pm in Lincoln vs in-state opponent UNK.

HuskersLincoln, NE - The Hukers (4-2), fresh off their Friday night win, continued their winning ways with a double header sweep over UC Riverside (2-6) 10-4 and 5-2.  The day was highlighted by strong starting pitching including a little redemption by Thad Weber who only allowed 2 runs and struck out 6 over a career high 7.0 innings.

The Husker bats also faired well against the Highlander pitching, including a 3 for 3 day by Freshman shortstop Ben Kline in the first game and a clutch 3-run homer by catcher Mitch Abeita to put the Huskers ahead 3-1 in the 6th of the night game.  Abeita’s homer was his third of this young season showing his improved power over his 1 home run all year last year  Senior center fielder Bryce Nimmo also had a good day at the plate, going 5 for 9 with 3 RBIs to help power the Huskers.

The story for the Huskers as of late has been the pitching.  The starters have allowed just 7 earned runs over the last 5 starts (29.2 innings) for a stellar 2.12 ERA.  The bullpen has been great as well, letting up just 2 earned runs over the same stretch of games (15.1 innings) for a measly 1.17 ERA.  Considering pitching was widely considered a rather large question mark entering the year, new pitching coach Eric Newman has got this staff off to an excellent start.

The Huskers will go for the series sweep today at Haymarket with the first pitch at 1:05 pm.  Husker JC-transfer Junior Aaron Pribanic (0-0) will take the mound for the Huskers.
