NebraskaSteve Octavien who has been bothered by a hamstring injury most this season was given his blackshirt yesterday and should be ready to go on Saturday against Texas.  Nebraska is going to need his speed at the linebacker position but just how ready will he be?

Octavien reported to camp 15 lbs heavier then last year and really hasn’t showen signs of his playmaker ability that we thought he would.  The hamstring injury slowed him down evern further but Coach Callahan says that he 100% and ready to roll so we have to trust coach that the puts the best players out there to compete.  Good luck Octavien, we all want to see you cracking some longhorns on Saturday!

NebraskaNebraska and Arkansas - coached by Van Horn, who resurrected the NU program from 1998 to 2002 - have signed a deal to play a home-and-home baseball series. The Razorbacks will visit Lincoln March 18 and 19, 2008, and Nebraska will play in Fayetteville, Ark., March 17 and 18, 2009.

Van Horn recorded a 214-92 record in Lincoln, taking the Huskers to three Big 12 Conference tournament titles, one regular-season crown and the school’s first College World Series berths in 2001 and 2002.  NU has since won two more regular-season Big 12 crowns, one tournament title and its first CWS game in 2005. Van Horn is 158-89 at Arkansas and guided the Razorbacks through the treacherous Southeastern Conference to the CWS in 2004.

NebraskaNebraska moved up four spots in both major college football polls Sunday, giving the Huskers their highest ratings since they were No. 12 going into the Texas game Nov. 1, 2003.  Nebraska is 6-1 and No. 16 in the USA Today Poll and No. 17 in the AP Poll.

Nebraska has won four straight games and, going back to last season, nine of its past 10 overall. Only eight other NCAA Division I-A teams are 9-1 or 10-0 in their past 10 games, including Texas.

Nebraska is also #17 in the first BCS Poll that was released on Sunday.

Wow what a dominating performance by the blackshirts last night.  They were all over Josh Freeman all night long and never let the K-State offense get going.  The running game was also very good last night, Brandon Jackson had a great first half racking up over 90 yards.

The first Husker score of the came when they executed a fake field goal. Jake Wesch connected with wide open tight end Hunter Teafatiller for a 17-yard touchdown pass to give NU the lead with 11:06 left in the first quarter.  Zac Taylor then hit tight end Josh Mueller in the endzone with 11:06 left in the first quarter making the score Nebraska 14 Kansas State 0.  In the third quarter, Marlon Lucky broke free on a 40 yard touchdown run to make the score 21-0.  K-State hit a 53 yard field goal but that was all they could muster as the Huskers won 21-3.

One thing I noticed is Josh Freeman is a pretty damn good quarterback in my opinion.  He has a very strong arm and if they ever get a offensive line he could cause some trouble.   I would have loved to have him in Husker Red but things didn’t work out that way and we can only move on.

The Huskers return to Lincoln to battle defending Big 12 and national champion Texas at Memorial Stadium on Saturday at 11 a.m. The game will be televised nationally by ABC.

Scoring (Nebraska 21, Kansas 3)

First Quarter (NU 7, KSU 0)
NU - Hunter Teafatiller 17 pass from Jake Wesch (Jordan Congdon kick), 11:06, NU 7-0

Second Quarter (NU 14, KSU 0)
NU - Josh Mueller 3 pass from Zac Taylor (Congdon kick), 11:02, NU 14-0

Third Quarter (NU 21, KSU 3)
NU - Marlon Lucky 40 run (Congdon kick), 8:55, NU 21-0
KSU - Jeff Snodgrass 53 field goal, 4:44, NU 21-3

Fourth Quarter (NU 21, KSU 3)
No Scoring

NebraskaThe heart one out today as Blake Lawrence from Overland Park Kansas choose a Nebraska Football scholarship over one from Kansas.  He had let it known that Nebraska and Kansas were his two favorities through the entire recruiting process and he would make his decision after visiting both schools.

One thing that made Husker fans think he would head to KU is because his brother is a backup quarterback on the team.  But in the end Blake choose Nebraska because he felt at home and believed that is where he belongs.

Blake is currently rated as the #15 outside linebacker in the country by Rivals.Com and is a great pickup for the Huskers!  Welcome to the Husker Family Blake!

NebraskaTime to get out the credit card again, the K-state / Nebraska football game this Saturday will be on Fox Sports Net Pay Per View.  The amount we will all be paying is $29.95 like previous games.  Kickoff will be at 6 pm cst from Manhattan Kansas.

Also, the game time for the Nebraska / Texas game will be 11 am cst and will be shown on ABC to 80% of the country.  This is bad news from a recruiting stand point, with the early kickoff, not as many recruits will have enough time to get to Lincoln after their games on Friday night.

NebraskaWe all know the Josh Freeman story already, once committed to the Huskers and then choosing K-state in the end when Ron Prince took over the head coaching job.  Well it is now time to see how good Josh Freeman is and how good of a coach Ron Prince is.

Freeman scored the winning touchdown against Oklahoma State on Saturday with 1:11 left in the game.  Freeman said he was glad to get a win in his first college start and he ready to play Nebraska.  He said “Nebraska is a good team, and hopefully we can beat them”.  Well I don’t  see that happening Josh, your O-line is in shambles, and your coach well I don’t even know where to start with that mess :)

You better be ready for the Nebraska Blackshirts to blow through your line and and hit you over and over on Saturday.  That is, if you can stay on the field long enough to get hit over and over.  The Blackshirts are ready for you, they remember everything, and now it is time for the punishment!  My prediction for the game, Nebraska 35 - Kansas State 17
