Some former Husker football players that were not selected in the 2007 NFL Draft have now signed free agent contracts with NFL Teams. Sometimes this works out better then being drafted in the later rounds, because the player and agent can pick and choose what team to goto if they are showing interest in the player. It gives the player a chance to look over depth charts and see where they would fit in with a certain team etc.
Ola Dugunduro was the first Husker to sign a free agent contract yesterday. Dugunduro will be joining the Dallas Cowboys.
Zac Taylor chose the Tampa Bay Bucs because of Jon Gruden and being familar with the West Coast Offense that the Bucs run. It is very similar to the offense that the Huskers run and Gruden said he will give Taylor a shot in their system. Taylor will be the 4th or 5th qb on their depth chart at the beginning of training camp so he will have a lot of work to do to make the team.
Barry Cryer will be headed to the San Diego Chargers. I don’t know much about the Chargers but do know that they are a good team and Cryer will have to really work his butt off to make the final roster.
Matt Herian will be joining Zac Taylor down in Tampa Bay. It really seems like Jon Gruden likes Husker players and that is probably because of his relationship with Coach Callahan. Herian still won’t ever be the player he was before his broken leg but he is still getting his shot in the NFL and that is all any player can really ask for.
If we hear of any other Huskers signing free agent contracts, we will be posting them here at Nebsports!

I’m a Bucs fan here in FL and I think Zac Taylor can do well in the Gruden system. I think he’ll have a better grasp of it then some of the guys there right now like Gradkowski. I hope he makes it or gets sent to NFL Europe to develop for the Bucs. I love Nebraska football and like to see its players do well.

DK, you are correct in Taylor will know the system, or be that far ahead of other QB’s that are trying to learn the west coast offense. That is one reason that Taylor chose to goto the Bucs.
I hope he can make the roster, but making it to third on the depth chart will be hard for him in my opinion. I can see NFL Europe happening though.
